Pants & The Four Relics

A table-ready arc where the former PC Pants (warforged) is positioned as the tragic antagonist. The four relics are callbacks to your previous campaign: Ellie’s Crown, the Unhatched Covenant (Egg), the Shattered Hammer, and the Broken Belt. The party must gather them to confront a Time‑Scar ritual at FrostMantle, bottom of Mirror Lake. Built for fast reference and print-friendly.

Tone: Tragic / Heist / Ruins System: D&D 2024 Party: 7 PCs, Lvl 7–8

1) BBEG Frame: Warforged Pants

Goal: Rewrite the ending. Pants believes Ely is dead and that the party’s choices doomed the world he loved. He thinks re‑assembling symbols of that day will power a Time‑Scar Ritual at FrostMantle to “buy back” one moment.

On-screen behavior: calculating, containment-first, and willing to suffer in others’ place. He gives the party outs and tries to remove, not kill, until the finale.

Twist Lever: If the party presents living proof of Ely or the crown’s ongoing protection, Pants pivots from erasing the past to saving her—shifting him toward anti‑villain.

2) The Four Relics

Ellie’s Crown — Crown of the Faewild’s Favor

Location: Crown Island • Continuity: Ely’s circlet from before everything went wrong; keeps a coastal cairn’s storms at bay. Islanders maintain the legend.

Opposition: Pants’s discreet Cannith salvage team with a warforged observer. Social/stealth can beat them to exfil.

Boon (attune) & Ammo Effect

Boon (keep it): 1/long rest, when a party member within 30 ft would fail a save vs. fear/charm, turn it into a success and grant Temp HP = your proficiency bonus.

Rifle ammo if sacrificed – “Petal Round”: On hit, the target cannot use Legendary Resistance and loses charm/fear immunities until end of your next turn.

Table Moments
  • Child shows a wooden gear toy Ely fixed “for a tall metal friend.”
  • Storm wall softens when the crown is near water spray.

Mysterious Egg — The Unhatched Covenant

Location: Sharn, the Cogs (Boromar vault; Daask eyes it) • Continuity: A preserved tarrasque egg like the two the party once carried; branded with familiar runes.

Opposition: Dual-alarm vault (mundane + magewright glyph net). Boromar prefers to deal; Daask plans to steal while you steal.

Boon (attune) & Ammo Effect

Boon (keep it): 1/long rest as a Bonus Action, exude apex dread: chosen creatures within 10 ft make a Wis save (DC 15) or become Frightened until end of your next turn.

Rifle ammo if sacrificed – “Brood‑Slayer Round”: On hit, +2d6 force and suppresses regeneration and damage resistances until end of your next turn.

  • Daask/Boromar cuttlebone coin signals a mid‑heist parley.
  • Schematic on-site has Pants’s neat corrections to Cannith math.

Shattered Hammer — Echo of the Broken Pact

Location: Eston sublevels, Mournland (Cannith Forge‑Nine) • Continuity: Pants’s signature weapon was sundered in the last battle—Cannith dragged shards below to study its resonance.

Opposition: Memory‑echo hazards, glass storms, and a Cannith warden construct still on patrol.

Boon (attune) & Ammo Effect

Boon (keep it): Once per turn on a melee hit, add +1d6 thunder; target must succeed a Str save (DC 15) or be pushed 10 ft.

Rifle ammo if sacrificed – “Maker’s Oath Round”: On hit, Dispel Magic (3rd, +5 check) against one ongoing effect on the target; constructs are Stunned until the start of your next turn if CR ≤ 10.

Table Moments
  • Training echo lets a PC step into Pants’s stance for one round.
  • Oath whisper: “I strike where you stand.”

Broken Belt — Shackles of the Fallen Colossus

Location: Cyre’s Glass Plateau—half‑buried Cannith colossus • Continuity: Pants’s Belt of Giant Strength repurposed as a clamp holding a colossus chest panel shut.

Opposition: Skill scene of leverage/weight/silence; brute force risks waking a torso‑fight with vented lightning and animated plates.

Boon (attune) & Ammo Effect

Boon (keep it): Bonus Action: gain Temp HP = proficiency + Con mod and resistance to bludgeoning for 1 minute (1/long rest).

Rifle ammo if sacrificed – “Titan’s Shackle Round”: On hit, target is Restrained; Huge+ have Disadvantage on the Str save (DC 17) to end it.

Table Moments
  • If the torso wakes, its cracked vox recognizes “Pants… orders?” then turns hostile to anyone else wearing the Belt.

3) Antimatter Rifle & Hit Rule

Site: FrostMantle, bottom of Mirror Lake. Ancient Cannith prototype that cauterizes planar wounds. It has no ammo by default.

To‑Hit Ladder (d6)

  • Base (no relics): hit on 6.
  • +1 band per attuned relic present: carrying all four = hit on 4–6.
  • Sacrifice a relic this shot: apply its special round effect and widen the band by +1 more for that shot (e.g., three carried + one sacrificed → 3–6).
Keeps your d6 swinginess but rewards progress and makes sacrifice dramatic.

Three-Step Firing Sequence

  1. Stabilize: 3 successful Arcana/Tool checks (DC 16). Failure triggers a Rift Burst.
  2. Charge: slot a relic (to sacrifice) or crank for 1 minute under pressure.
  3. Fire: one PC aims, others hold waves; roll the success band.
Outcomes
  • Party fires successfully: Ritual collapses; Pants must face grief without rewrite.
  • Pants fires successfully: He buys back one moment at personal cost. You choose the subtle change (Ely’s status, a scar, a forgotten name).
  • Miss: Rift backlash; roll a Burst, one relic cracks (loses boon) but can still be used as ammo if later sacrificed.

4) Act Structure & Beats

Act I – Crown Island

  • Bittersweet memories of Ely.
  • Pants’s agents offer to “take the burden.” First sign he avoids bloodshed.

Act II – Sharn (The Egg)

  • Heist vs. Boromar/Daask. Evidence of Pants’s oversight.
  • Social wedge: keep the egg as leverage?

Act III – Eston (Hammer)

  • Memory echoes; oath line: “I strike where you stand.”
  • Re‑haft or bag the shards—both sting.

Act IV – Glass Plateau (Belt)

  • Puzzle vs. waking the torso. If it wakes, it recognizes Pants—and attacks the wearer.

Finale – FrostMantle

Time‑Scar pulses like a heartbeat. Pants’s thesis: “I’ll take the shot. You only had to bring the past to me.” Run the three-step sequence and use the d6 ladder.
